Arithmetic Mean
Provide a sequence of numbers — comma or space as separator and see the result along with the sum and the number of elements.
How to use this page
- Fill in the fields in the form above — the result recomputes at once, with no page reload.
- Under the result you will find the interpretation scale, if the calculator has one: it says which range your value fell into.
- The formula we use is shown lower on this page — you can check the arithmetic yourself.
- To compute the same for another game or variant, change it in the select field — prices and pools update automatically.
What this page does not do: It does not point to numbers to play and does not predict a draw — every draw is independent of the previous ones.

The arithmetic mean is the simplest measure of the center of a data set. You add everything up, divide by the number of elements and you have the result. For grades 4, 5, 3, 5, 4 the sum is 21, there are five elements, so the mean is 4.2. The calculation is trivial, but a calculator becomes useful when there are dozens of numbers and it's easy to make a mistake while summing.
It's worth knowing the limitation of this measure: it reacts to extreme values more strongly than it might seem. If in a set of ten salaries nine are four thousand each and one is a hundred thousand, the average will be almost thirteen thousand. For data with outlying values the median tends to be more sensible, meaning the middle value after sorting. The mean tells you how much falls to one person, the median tells you what the person in the middle of the group has.
The calculator accepts numbers separated by semicolons, spaces or commas followed by spaces — pasting a column copied from a spreadsheet also works. Write fractions with a comma or a dot, e.g. 3,75 or 3.75. If you enter something that is not a number, the calculator will show a message instead of calculating — you will never see an empty value or the word NaN in the result. If individual values have different weights, use the weighted average calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the average of grades 4, 5, 3, 5, 4?
The sum is 21, there are five grades, so the average is 4.2. To reach a 4.5 average, this set still needs 1.5 more points in total.
What is the difference between the mean and the median?
The mean divides the sum by the number of elements, the median indicates the middle value. For the set 1, 2, 3, 4, 100 the mean is 22, while the median is only 3.
How many numbers can I enter?
Practically no limit — the calculator handles several thousand entries pasted from a spreadsheet. Empty entries between separators are skipped.
How do I write a decimal number?
Use a point or comma, for example 3.75 or 3,75. Separate consecutive values with a semicolon, space, or a new line.
